Table of Contents

How To Move Around In Cancun?

Moving around Cancun is easy, with several transportation options available for tourists depending on your preferences and budget. Let’s check out the best ways to get around:

Public Buses as an Affordable option to move around in Cancun

R-1 & R-2 Buses These local buses are the most budget-friendly way to travel around Cancun, especially between the Hotel Zone, downtown Cancun (El Centro), and all popular tourist areas. I recommend these as they run frequently, and you can flag them down at designated stops or even along the main roads. It costs you typically around USD 1 (20-25 pesos), making it a cheap and easy way to move around.

Taxis as a Fast, secure and little pricey option to move around in Cancun

Taxis are readily available throughout Cancun, especially in the Hotel Zone, but fares can be high. It’s a good idea to agree on a price before getting in, as Cancun taxis don’t always use meters. Taxis in downtown Cancun are cheaper, and they can be flagged down on the street or booked through your hotel. For airport transfers, I recommend you pre-book a shuttle service or private car.

Car Rentals as a flexible option to move around in Cancun

Renting a car is ideal if you plan to explore beyond Cancun and visit nearby destinations like Tulum, Playa del Carmen, or the cenotes along the Riviera Maya. There are many car rental companies at Cancun Airport and in the city. Most of the hotels offer parking, but be cautious when parking in public areas as spaces can be limited, especially in the Hotel Zone. The roads in Cancun are generally well-maintained, but traffic can be busy, especially in peak tourist season.

Shuttle Services as the most Convenience service

Many resorts and hotels offer shuttle services to popular attractions, the airport, or nearby cities. These can be pre-arranged through the hotel and are perfect for travellers who want hassle-free transportation. If you want more comfort, you can also book private shuttles or vans for larger groups or families.

Biking For Short Distances

Some hotels offer bike rentals, and Cancun’s flat terrain makes cycling easy, especially around the Hotel Zone. There are also bike paths in certain areas, allowing for a safe ride along the coastline.

Ferries For Day Trips like Isla Mujeres

If you plan to visit Isla Mujeres, ferries depart from Puerto Juarez or the Hotel Zone regularly. The ferry ride takes about 15-20 minutes and is a fun way to explore nearby islands.

Cancun offers a range of transportation options that cater to different travel styles, making it easy to get around and explore both the city and surrounding areas. So, away your worries and enjoy.

How Much Do I Need to Go To Cancun For Vacation?

The cost of a vacation to Cancun can vary depending on your travel style, preferences, and the time of year. But in my opinion, this figure should be around an exact match for your perfect trip to Cancun. From 1300$ to 2000$ you will enjoy one week in Cancun with ease and many facilities. This amount is estimated for the middle to upper class. And if you want a luxurious tour, you should not ask for estimated money, for money-value tours check booking.com before bookings.

Tips for Saving Money in Cancun

Here are some practical and useful tips for saving money, which I always use and work. Give it a check once.

  1. Travel During the Off-Season is from May to November. You will get lower prices on flights and hotels at that time. You will also avoid large crowds. However, weather consideration is too basic for this. This period is known as hurricane season so, be careful with your bookings.
  2. Pre-book your hotels according to your budget.
  3. Stay in Downtown Cancun it will be cheaper and help you to stay within budget.
  4. Use Public Transportation like buses R-1 and R-2.
  5. Eat Like a Local prefers enjoying street food. Avid resort restaurants will be too pricey and serve low portions.
  6. Buy Groceries and Snacks and prefer self-catering. Especially prefer breakfast and snacks from Walmart. Pack Lunch for your Day Trips Avoid having meals in overrated tourist areas.
  7. Take Advantage of Free Activities like beaches and hotel zones, visit local markets etc.
  8. Instead of expensive guided tours, consider renting a car or using buses to visit nearby attractions like Chichen Itza or Tulum on your own. Self-guided tours are always memorable for my birds.

What is the Essential Packing List for your Cancun tour?

Here’s an essential packing list for your Cancun tour, tailored for both comfort and convenience:

  1. In my recommendation packing lightweight dresses because Cancun sometimes seems very hot. Tea shirts, shorts, sundresses, tank tops, a pair of swimwear, sunglasses, comfortable shoes, and sun hats are also on your packing list.
  2. In Footwear I would say you need some flip-flops for the beach and poolside some walking shoes for visiting downtown and archaeological sites. And a pair of dressy sandals for some sexy dinners.
  1. In Toiletries you should carry sunscreen, Aleo Vera Gel, and Bug Spray because mosquitoes are an issue in Mexico. Of course, you need a Lip Balm to protect your lips, Moisturizer, Travel-Size Shampoo, Conditioner Deodorant, Toothbrush and Toothpaste.
  2. In Tech & Accessories, you need a basic Smartphone, Charger, Power Bank, Camera,  Adapter/Converter and Headphones/Earbuds.
  3. You also need a First-Aid Kit Include band-aids, antiseptic wipes, and any personal items you may need.

How to stay safe in Cancun Mexico?

In my opinion, Safety is somehow related to your own doings. The environment also should be supportive and it means a lot. But the safety precautions from your side should always be on point. Some of my ever-used safety steps as a solo female traveller are given below:

  1. Make sure you are always aware of your environment. It helps you to prepare defence in any unexpected situation in advance.
  2. Use an ATM at a reputable place.
  3. Use taxis at night times.
  4. Curfew yourself in the hotel at 10 PM.
  5. Stay downtown it is affordable and it will be more secure as a solo female traveller.
  6. Always remember the helpline numbers of any country in which you are travelling.
  7. Put a pocket knife and pepper spray in your bag for safety concerns.

It is in yourself suppose you are in a Michelin Star restaurant you carry brands on yourself and it’s your birthday but the decorations are properly against your requirements. Now you have two options first, you cry a lot spell your makeup and leave the place, second,  you carry the cake with your friends and celebrate your birthday in open ground under the shady sky.  Sit as you like, scream as much louder as you want, take pictures in your signature poses, and shoot videos in retakes until they satisfy your soul. This is how you can celebrate your perfect and memorable birthday without money.

Same as in the case of Tulum travel you can get many options on your budget because as usual, I say  “Tulum has something for everyone”. Before going onward if you are curious about beach clubs in tulum Then give it a check once “9 Best Beach Clubs In Tulum Ever”.

1. Tulum On A Budget: The Best Time Of Year To Visit Tulum

Planning to visit Tulum on a budget can be both enjoyable and affordable if you plan your trip during the right time of year. The best times to visit Tulum on a budget are during the off seasons, which offer lower prices on accommodations and flights, and fewer crowds but still you can enjoy pleasant weather. Here are the optimal times to consider:

  •   Late April to Early June

This season is just after the peak season so prices are low for all flights, accommodations, food etc. And crowd is also low as compared to the winter season. At that time summer is on the head but the temperature will be bearable hot. It’s about 25-30°C. It is perfect for backpackers in Tulum and for solo travellers as well.

  •  September to Early November

This is another great time for Budget travellers. Prices are on the lower side because the tourist season is far away. You can get plenty of time in the Tourist spots for relaxation without any hustle. And don’t worry about hurricane season you can get a very nice day with sunshine at  26-31°C. But be alert if you are an organized person then choose a plane in late April to early June because the chances of unpredicted weather are somehow low at that duration.

Affordable rentals are a very interesting way to consider in travel. But I don’t like it personally because when we are in travel and in a new country then it’s our comfort time. In that duration, I prefer hotels and resorts that take care of us and allow us to facilitate with all their amenities. Best Things To Do In Tulum For Families On Tulum beach

Tulum beach photos

The first thing we do after checking in at our hotel is a plane to visit Tulum Beach. It is the most famous and a fairytale spot for all tourists. And the thing is it is free for everyone or it has many activities besides it. There are amazing restaurants, lounges and many more.

A must-visit experience is entering any Beach club here. There are many beach clubs there and they offer an unforgettable experience. You should be careful about the prize costs of 50 to 100 $ but at peak season it may cost 500 $ per person. So always analyse the market first then do the best bargaining you have ever done and then buy a Beach Club membership. After all this, it is worth it.

Tulum Beach Activities

Tulum beaches are full of activities including the best things to do in Tulum for families. There are a lot of options for fun activities like kayaking, scuba diving, snorkelling, Tulum bioluminescent boat tours, swimming with turtles, etc. A list of some best experiences that I prefer to do here is given below:

Best snorkelling spots in Tulum

Tulum Ruins Beach (Playa Ruinas)

If you are a beginner and interested in doing some adventure in your life. Or you are with your family and worried about the security of the snorkelling experience. Then this spot is for you it offers a unique opportunity to snorkel right next to the majestic Tulum ruins. The waters here are relatively shallow and calm, making it a great choice for beginners and families. But don’t worry about the site experience you can see a variety of colourful fish, as well as coral reefs and sea turtles.

 Cenotes

If you are reading this article then you are definitely in Tulum or planning to come to Tulum or may be interested in Tulum by any chance. It doesn’t matter why you are here let me just remind you Tulum is home to lush green jungles and cenotes. Cenotes are natural sinkholes that have been filled with fresh water. These cenotes offer a unique and otherworldly snorkelling experience. Some of the most popular cenotes for snorkelling include Gran Cenote, Cenote Dos Ojos, and Casa Cenote. The waters in the cenotes are typically crystal clear, and you can see a variety of fish, turtles, and other underwater creatures.

Tulum Beaches For Swimming With Turtles

Akumal

I think Akumal is the best Beach town for swimming with turtles. It is a small beach town located about 30 minutes north of Tulum. It is famous for its population of green sea turtles, which you can swim and snorkel with. Akumal is also a great spot to see other marine life, such as stingrays, barracuda, and colourful fish.

Tulum Mayan ruins self-guided tour guide

If you are a true history lover or want to experience something mind-blowing this tip is for you. You must have to visit this famous  Tulum Mayan Ruin.  It is an archaeological site right along the water in front of it.  It is the most famous Mayan Ruin inside the Riveria Maya just because of its location. It’s basically known for its astronomy that the Mayans were doing here.

On a captivating journey through time with a self-guided tour of the Tulum Mayan ruins. As you step onto this ancient archaeological site you’ll be greeted by the echoes of a Mayan civilization that goes centuries ago. Begin your exploration with the top side of this historical temple that provides you with the amazing scenery of the Carrabian sea below it. With each step, let the whispers of the past guide you through this archaeological treasure, offering a profound connection to a bygone era.

Trust me the experience of the site from the top of this ruin is impossible to explain. In my recommendation take advantage of this spot at any cost.

Tulum Day Trip To Coba Ruins

If you really want to know about Mayan archaeological sites I would recommend going to the coba. I suggest you rent a bicycle or hire a local guide to lead you to begin your adventure through the sprawling archaeological site. Pedal or walk along the shaded pathways, encountering towering pyramids, ball courts, and ceremonial plazas along the way brings you to the history of Mayan. After a day of exploration, you will surely return to Tulum enriched by the marvels of Coba.

Rent Bikes And A Round Of Tulum

My most favourite activity in every tour is a round of downtown sometimes this round covers the whole city. It feels very pleasure to move along the Tulum lush green jungle roadsides. Imagine you have a motorbike or bicycle in Tulum so you can stop at every art and craft store. Or you can stop at any tempting seafood store and see or buy any display dress at any shop around the road. I think a round of Tulum on a bicycle or motorbike is a therapy that everyone needs.

Tulum Day Trip To Sian Kaan Biosphere Reserve

In my opinion, Sian Ka’an is a place that is completely worth a Tulum tour. The name “Sian Ka’an” means “Origin of the Sky” in the Mayan language, which perfectly describes its breathtaking beauty.  It is a beautiful and unique place, perfect for those who love nature. Because it is a very important spot in the Tulum tour I recommend you to visit it with the guidance of any local guide.

Its plus points are too many but some are a large biosphere reserve near the Caribbean Sea, full of diverse wildlife and stunning landscapes. You can also explore its tropical forests, crystal-clear lagoons, and ancient Mayan ruins. There are many activities which make your visit incredible like bird watching, snorkelling, and guided boat tours.

Gran Cenote

Gran Cenote is one of the most famous and beautiful cenotes located near the town of Tulum. It is famous for amazing swimming, snorkelling, and diving experiences.  It’s a stunning natural sinkhole filled with crystal-clear, fresh water. It is surrounded by lush greenery and limestone formations.  One more thing about this is it suitable for everyone family couple and solos also. The water is so clear here that, you can easily see turtles, fish, and underwater stalactites. It doesn’t matter who with you are it gives you an unforgettable experience.

Xcaret Theme Park

Xcaret theme park

If you are on a budget then I am sorry but please make space for Xcaret Theme Park because it is an all-inclusive natural water theme park plus it is incredible. So I know it is expensive though but it provides you with an unforgettable experience of snorkelling ATV rides, cenotes diving and many more. Its ticket costs you 135$ or 200$ per person but it is worth it when you leave it. So it is a must-try experience.

Xel-Ha-Water Park

It is an on-budget option guys but after visiting Xcaret Theme Park I think you won’t like it. But it is also a good option for family visits as it offers you a variety of lagoons and cenotes. You can also enjoy swimming with dolphins, manatees, and other marine animals. I am gonna include it in on-budget activities in Tulum.

A morning in Downtown Tulum

Let me just explain to you why I add downtown visits to the things-to-do list. It is because Tulum has two different sides. One is the hotel beachy or Tourist era and the other is the downtown era. Here you get the most authentic Mexican food and get a chance to meet the locals. Downtown Tulum has a whole different vibe it deserves your at least one morning here.

Playa del Carmen

Augh!! Playa del Carmen is my favourite place to spend an evening here after the beachside. This is the town near Tulum you can get here colectivo or by renting a car but a taxi must be expensive. Guys just trust me this place makes it worth the evening you spend here. Because there is going so much in the evening. They have different shows, fire shows, water shows, cultural shows, different art representations show and many fun activities here. Again I assure you all guys love the place and time spent here.

Isla Mujeres

Isla mujeres image

Isla Mujeres is a very small island with many fun activities. You can also go here by Colectivo if you are on a seven-day tour then must include it in your things to-do list. You can also combine your tour with Isla Contoy here you can get a lot of knowledge about wildlife. It will prove a good experience for you with complementary lunch in advance bookings.

A day in Cancun

I added Cancun to this list because it deserves to be spent a whole day in the name of its hustle and bustle. In my recommendation when you land at Cancun airport must stay at least a night and two days in any modern resort. It proves a good option for experienced luxury and aff course for some shopping.

Conclusion

For Tulumnatis, I wanna share something, In a year Tulum will have its airport. This project is in working yet. One more thing that I wanna share for beginners in Tulum. Tulum has two sides one is its beachside or hotel side. This site is famous among tourists mostly it represents natural jungle beauty and beaches. It also offers you natural skin hole cenotes swimming experience or some astronomy-specific Mayan structures. So, prizes may vary here. I think it’s quite natural.

On the other side, there is downtown Tulum where you get many affordable options and also a chance to meet with locals or the chance to get some authentic Mexican food. The list I made for things to do in Tulum covers both sides. you can make bookings through booking.com which provides you with perfect packages for your full-day tour guide.

Good luck My birds!!!

AUTOR, Tulum

Ughf The author is a dining of dreams. It is a hidden gem in Conrad Tulum Riviera Maya. when I tried this restaurant I was staying in a Conrad with my boyfriend. And it was my boyfriend’s birthday and I wanted to celebrate it exactly at midnight. Definitely, I was worried because it’s another country another city. But the team of authors took all my worries away. Marco, Dimitri and the extraordinary Chef saved my planes. I can’t thank you enough. The management of this restaurant is exceptional.

We enjoyed everything from the food, cocktails, mocktails, atmosphere- everything was impeccable. This was the best meal we’ve had in Mexico (chipotle bread with coffee butter, braised beef with foie gras sweet potatoes, best tamale with truffles, lovely delicate dessert with raspberry (try this please) and then a chocolate caramel cake with richness of flavour) and left us with a desire to try more. Everything was incredible its service its food and aff course its environment was also too good. Highly recommended!!!

Their ambience is also good, and their culinary skills with food and cocktails were also impressive.

For the menu, we ordered Caribbean fresh fish, Sweet potato Agrodolce, Campeche prawns, La cabaña quail, The lamb yes you can say we ordered the whole menu. This is because the taste is so much good and unique. Every spice is on point. Vegetables are fresh and food tempts your hunger more. My only regret about my 3rd trip to Tulum is that I just visited Casa Banana for one time. This place has literally become my comfy place in Tulum for dinner. It is easy to find international breakfast in Tulum but difficult to find authentic international dinner in Tulum. This is basically an Argentinean steak house that serves American blended flavour food with the beautiful environment of Tulum. Their whole menu is full of flavours but their outstanding steak stole my heart.

Kitchen Table, Tulum

This recommendation is from my heart. This restaurant provides you with luxurious services it offers you a wet towel before serving dinner. Before going forward let me tell you it is included in Tulum restaurants that take reservations.

Candles on each table and jungle touches around it make it a perfect destination for a romantic dinner. Kitchen Table is definitely one of my favourite destinations in Tulum just because of its incredible service and flavourful food. They did have to pick your own lobster choice on their menu. It’s too cool that people feel a connection with their on-order food. When I visited it firstly I tried The Elote starter which was too good and piping hot, the Birria Quesadilla and Costilla Taco were big, delicious and again, piping hot. And a tip here is You probably, only need one to fill you up, two would be a lot. There was melted cheese on both, which may or may not have been an accident, but they were both great. It’s my comfy corner for my work vacation time. Coffee from Coco and its bakery items aughhh what reminds me…..Okay, Okay, Now it’s time to review its family rooms.

So, it offers a nice king-size bed, 2 double beds, 2 bathrooms and a private balcony or a terrace. Let me tell you more about its facilities i am too excited about it. It offers a 42-inch smart TV in every family room, plush robes, slippers, a hair dryer, a coffee maker, a mini bar, and a room table isn’t it amazing?

Now the fun time, Dreams Tulum offers you a range of entertainment options. There are two outdoor pools both having different designs that cater to different preferences. One pool is surrounded by comfortable loungers and the other is known as an activity hub. Now It gonna be interesting for teenagers because Pool Number Two offers daily aqua aerobics sessions and a weekly pool party. Last but not least, it has a water park and a kids’ club area that has a lot of engaging activities for kids. 2. La Zebra Hotel Tulum

I put La Zebra on number two because my family’s experience with this boutique hotel is too good. It is one of the best beachfront Tulum hotels for families. I recommend this hotel only because it prefers to cater to kids. I am not a big fan of its architecture because it’s too basic but It has an amazing beachfront that you all looking for.

And the most interesting thing about this hotel is it offers you food and drinks on the beach site. Also, many activities for children like swings on the beach site and a specific play area for kids too. You can imagine how relaxing it is to lay on sunbeds and see your child playing on the beach’s white sand.

Okay So, Now we are talking about the room review of Le Zebra Hotel. There are six categories of rooms some are with plush pools and some are without. We had an ocean-view room which was slightly different from ocean front room. In the front room, you can get a pure ocean view without any abstraction.

If you are with your family then I recommend getting an ocean-view room because Le Zebra provides an amazing service in it too. we get a mini pool exactly in front of our room and the furniture is too comfortable to sit on. We also had a sofa for my younger brother and a foldable mattress for my younger sister and it’s too relaxed. We had tons of closet space, a full coffee-making service except milk, some wine glasses and a fully stocked mini-bar. The bathrooms are nicely done with necessities.

2. Kanan Hotel Tulum

Okay so, before starting its review let me clear a thing this hotel has a full romantic jungly vibe with a luxury touch and I am in love with it. I am not putting it on number one just because it’s too rushy or a busy place and I know some people do not feel comfortable around many people, so I will not do self-obsessed ratings just because I loved it too much.

Let’s start with its room services it offers you a wooden bathtub exactly beside your kingsize bed. You have a very comfortable sitting area with a decent space on the balcony. You have a pool if you book a room on the ground floor otherwise you only get a good bohemian vibe. In the specs, we consider its spa area and a mini theatre for movies. You may also get a fantastic dinner table on the rooftop you will be blown out by the view from there. Move towards my criteria of review:

2. Be Tulum Beach & Spa Resort

If you are a solo traveller looking for some adventurous accommodation and your budget is also handsome then this place is for you. I recommend this resort to solo travellers ( Boys/ Girls) because it has direct access to the Caribbean Sea. So, you can get easily a chance to go swimming with dolphins and snorkelling.

One more reason for adding this resort to the list of best hotels and resorts for solo travellers is it provides two pools in the resort and one of them is along the barside. So for the bar vibe, you don’t need to go outside. Imagine you have a shot of tequila in your hand and you are sitting at the edge of a pool dipping half your legs in the water.  Bea, You get the vibe of Tulum Quintana Roo Mexico in Be Tulum Beach & Spa Resort.

As a solo traveller, the most important thing at any place for me is my safety and my food yeah sorry guys I am foody and this place has both things. They have excellent food and a secure environment their staff service is incredible and they have budget-friendly room options for solo travellers. What more do you want to listen to? 3. Hotel Tiki Tiki Tulum/ Holistika

Hotel Tiki Tiki Tulum Mexico and its sister property Holistika Tulum are on my budget-friendly options list b/c you get two for the price of one and b/c of its great design. Tiki Tiki and Holistika are two different properties but by booking in one you will access the facilities of both. Tiki Tiki is serving breakfast and lunch only. For dinner, you will go to Holistika. And trust me you’ll be said wow to the food.

The pool and lobby area are my favourite places. But the room’s design from the outside is too basic and from inside, it’s too simple. In-room facilities, you have no TV, a partially stuck mini fridge, or an espresso maker. But solo and budget-tight guys never get more best options from this.

El Destilado with a creative menu that fuses local flavours with international cuisine. El Destilado is great for families looking to try something unique and incredible. 1. Restaurante Taniperla Oaxaca

This is my first-ever priority to have a traditional meal in Oaxaca. I tried it out in the Morning first time. Breakfast was so sublimely good (eggs with mole sauce, and delicious whole wheat bread) that I went back for dinner. The chicken salad was amazingly good, once again with condiments and that yummy bread. Prices could have been higher for such high-quality food! It does not have a sophisticated interior, set off on a busy street and is easy to miss, but you shouldn’t. Well located near the Templo Santo Domingo, Llano Park and the botanic garden. This place forces you to fall in love. A high recommendation from deep inside of my heart.

It’s a small cafe that I discover randomly. Here I get gluten-free options and to die for pizzas. It is a very affordable restaurant. I do prefer breakfast from there. And sorry but I didn’t care about my stomach whenever I went there. I consider their pizzas at my breakfast at 12 0 clock. I know this is not good girl behaviour but trust me it’s their pizza’s fault, not mine.

2. Casa Del Elfo, Oaxaca

This blog is about a complete travel guide to Oaxaca Mexico 2024. Let’s check out the table of contents

Table of Contents

How to get into Oaxaca?

By Air:

You can get into Oaxaca by air it has its own airport. If you want to come here for any festival then take a direct international flight to its airport. Otherwise, first, you can come to Mexico City and then from Mexico, you can come to Oaxaca it takes one hour. And this way is also a reliable option by the way.

By bus:

You can also come to Oaxaca by bus which takes 5 to 6 hours. It’s less expensive than getting in by air. Don’t worry about your comfort you can get a first-class bus option there also.

How To Get Around In Oaxaca

Don’t worry about getting around in Oaxaca there are many safe ways per your preferences. Some of them I mention below:

  • Get around with buses in Oaxaca

The busing system in Oaxaca Mexico is a good way to move around. It’s too rushy by the way but I think it’s obvious because it’s affordable. It is safest also but sometimes you face very difficulty because conductors drivers and locals everyone speak Spanish frequently not English.

  • Get around with colectivos

Moving around with colectivos is way more expensive than buses. But it’s more convenient because it does not stop anywhere only point-to-point service. It’s a shared van with another random party so you both can get less expense and easy travel.

  • Moving around with taxis

Moving around is also a reliable option in Oaxaca you can directly get a taxi from the road or ask the hotel for it they can call for you. It’s a bit more expensive than buses and collectives in Oaxaca.

  • A reliable app for booking get-around options in Oaxaca

Didi is a reliable option for booking services in Oaxaca otherwise there are a lot of scams on overall Mexico for car rental platforms I found with some authentication.

  • Car and bike rentals in Oaxaca

Renting a bike and car is also a very good option i prefer it a lot but I recommend it for those who are experts at driving anywhere because you can be in a lot of traffic sometimes in Oaxaca.

Best Markets To Visit In Oaxaca

Overall, Oaxaca is known as heaven for food but its markets welcome food lovers like they are only built for them. Some amazing rich cultural and food blockbuster places with my personal experiences are given below:

1. Mercado Benito Juárez

This market is located in the heart of Oaxaca you can find the main square here. This market madly offers you fresh meat, cheese and a variety of Oaxacan traditional food. I tried the mole but wasn’t able to resolve the mystery about it. But the flavour omg my mouth is watering again. I refused to try chapulines but my boyfriend did and he loves their crunch. Overall, the experience is great.

Mercado 20 de Noviembre

This market is a true heaven for food lovers. When you visit it you will fall in love with it. It offers you perfect tasty Mexican food that’s more than tacos or chapulines instead it offers you tlayudas (large tortillas topped with beans, cheese, and meat), tasajo (grilled beef), and the famous Oaxacan chocolate.

3. Mercado de la Merced

It is the largest market in Mexico so, it has a lot of stuff to offer you. It is like a wholesale perfection hub. It has variety in all classes. It offers you amazing fresh produce. It’s the best place to explore local priorities and lifestyles. I enjoyed this place a lot due to the local’s presence but my boyfriend doesn’t like it much because it prefers modesty and a less busy area.

  1. Cerro del Fortín

This hill located in Oaxaca City offers great views of the city and surrounding mountains. The trail to the top is steep but short, taking about 30 minutes to reach the viewpoint. Again I recommend hiking early in the morning or late in the afternoon to avoid the midday bright sun. The top is a great and romantic spot for sunrise or sunset views. This point is highly recommended for couples.

Its location is Near Mazunte. It is a quiet and secluded beach known for its stunning sunsets and rugged beauty. It gives you a natural vibe not too modified as per time requirement. It’s Ideal for relaxing and enjoying the natural scenery but I would not recommend Swimming in it because it can be dangerous due to strong currents, so be cautious.

  1. Playa San Agustin

It is located near Huatulco. This beach gives you a calm and clean vibe. Its clear water is perfect for snorkelling and swimming. It’s part of the Huatulco National Park but is less visited by tourists. Must try snorkelling here to explore the underwater world and try a few small restaurants that serve fresh seafood.

  1. Playa La Boquilla

It is located near Puerto Angel. A small, hidden gem with turquoise waters and a tranquil atmosphere. This beach is surrounded by lush vegetation and rocky outcrops. It’s great for snorkelling and swimming. It is far away from rush so bring any supplies you might need to spend the whole day here.

  1. Bahía de San Agustín

It is a part of Huatulco’s nine bays and known for its crystal-clear waters and excellent snorkelling opportunities. The bay is relatively untouched and it is the best place to relax alone. Must visit the coral reefs for snorkelling I don’t think without seeing a glimpse of these corals it’s worth it. There are basic amenities and a few local restaurants.

The designs often feature Zapotec symbols and motifs. I recommend visiting “Casa Santiago and the Taller de Artesanías Los Baños” for an unforgettable experience.

2. San Bartolo Coyotepec

This place is known for its black clay pottery, this town also has a tradition of weaving. Look for textiles that incorporate black clay beads and ornaments. Must-try places here are: “Doña Rosa’s workshop and the artisan market.”

This small village is famous for its backstrap loom-woven textiles, particularly belts, table runners, and bags. These designs are complicated, with patterns that often tell stories or represent daily life. Oaxaca Food Guide: Must-Try Dishes

Talking about food is my favourite topic and always excites me. Ans we have to talk about Oaxacas food it is more exciting than normal. Oaxaca is referred to as the culinary capital of Mexico, and for many good reasons. The region’s rich cultural heritage is reflected in its food, with flavours and dishes that are unique, vibrant, and deeply rooted in traditions. These guides tell you about the few dishes that you should try when you go there.

  1. Mole Negro

The most famous Mole Negro is also known as Oaxaca’s seven moles. This complex, rich sauce is made from a blend of over 20 ingredients, including chiles, spices, nuts, seeds, and chocolate. It’s typically served over chicken or turkey and is a true representation of the depth and richness of Oaxacan cuisine. The must-try places are  La Teca or Las Quince Letras in Oaxaca City. They are very famous for their mole dishes once you try them you fall in love with them.

2. Tlayudas

Tlayudas is basically an “Oaxacan pizza,”. Tlayuda is a large, crispy tortilla spread with asiento (unrefined pork lard) and refried beans, then topped with shredded cabbage, avocado, Oaxaca cheese, and your choice of meat (usually chorizo, tasajo, or cecina). It’s grilled until crispy but is a perfect balance of textures and flavours. Trust me when you try this you fall in love with this. These are the places where I recommend you to try this “Mercado 20 de Noviembre or Tlayudas El Negro” for an authentic experience.

3. Memelas

Memelas are thick, handmade corn tortillas topped with a variety of ingredients such as refried beans, salsa, cheese, and sometimes meat. They are normally served with Asiento and queso fresco, and it makes them a simple yet delicious street food option. Street vendors around Mercado de Benito Juárez or El Llano Park are famous for memelas.

4. Chapulines

The fact is I am not a fan of chapulines but the Oaxacan delicacy about chapulines (grasshoppers) is on another level. They toasted them with garlic, lime juice, chillies, and salt. They are crunchy and have a slightly tangy flavour. Often served as a snack, or as a topping for tlayudas and other dishes, they are a must-try for adventurous eaters. Best quality is available at La Cosecha Organic Market or from vendors at the Tlacolula Market.

5. Tamales Oaxaqueños

These tamales are unique and interesting to eat. In Oaxaca, it is available in wrap with banana leaves instead of corn husks, giving them a distinctive flavour. They are filled with various ingredients, such as mole, chicken, or pork, and are steamed until tender and flavorful. From my side Highly recommend trying them at Tamales Doña Vale in the Mercado de la Merced.

History Of Tulum And Its Religious Importance

Have you ever wondered about the captivating history of Tulum? This fascinating place was built around 1200 AD and thrived for centuries as a major trade centre. Tulum’s peak came between the 13th and 15th centuries, and it remained occupied for a while even after the Spanish arrived in the 16th century. Today, Tulum’s ruins are a popular tourist destination, offering a glimpse into the lives of the ancient Mayans and some iconic ruins.

Beyond its historical allure, Tulum also holds significant religious importance for the Mayan civilization. Temples dedicated to gods like the Descending God and the Diving God reflect the spiritual beliefs and rituals practised by the ancient Mayans. Ceremonies honouring these deities were conducted to ensure bountiful harvests, successful trades, and protection from adversity. You can immerse yourself in the sacred atmosphere of Tulum by participating in traditional Mayan rituals, such as sweat lodge ceremonies and temazcal rituals, which aim to cleanse the body, mind, and spirit.

Archaeological Site And Beauty Of Tulum

The name “Tulum” translates to “wall” or “fortress” in Yucatec Maya, reflecting the defensive walls that once surrounded the city. These walls, combined with its strategic location atop cliffs overlooking the Caribbean Sea, afforded Tulum protection and made it a significant maritime trading hub.

The architecture of Tulum’s ruins is characterised by its simplicity and elegance, with structures built using limestone and adorned with intricate carvings and murals. The most iconic building within the site is El Castillo, a towering pyramid that serves both ceremonial and navigational purposes. Its position allowed Mayan priests to observe the movements of the sun and stars, underscoring the importance of astronomy in Mayan culture.

Day of The Dead Celebrations In Mexico: A Cultural Guide

The Day of the Dead, or “Día de los Muertos,” is a vibrant, deep and meaningful celebration in Mexico. My blog explores the history, traditions, and festivities surrounding this unique holiday.

History and Significance

The Day of the Dead dates back to pre-Hispanic civilizations such as the Aztecs, who believed that death was a natural phase in life’s continuum. They honoured their deceased loved ones with rituals and offerings. When Spanish colonizers arrived, these traditions blended with Catholic practices, creating the modern Día de los Muertos celebrated today.

When and Where

The celebrations occur on November 1st and 2nd, coinciding with All Saints’ Day and All Souls’ Day. November 1st is dedicated to children and infants, known as “Día de los Inocentes” or “Día de los Angelitos,” while November 2nd refers to adults.

Major celebrations take place across Mexico, with notable festivities in:

Mexico City: is known for its grand parades and the Festival of Life and Death.

Oaxaca: Renowned for its traditional altars and cemetery vigils.

Michoacán (Pátzcuaro): Famous for its picturesque lake and the island of Janitzio, where indigenous Purepecha communities hold traditional ceremonies.

                      Traditions and Symbols

Altars (Ofrendas): Families create elaborate altars at home and in cemeteries to honour their deceased relatives. These altars include photographs, mementoes, and favourite foods and drinks of the departed.

Marigolds (Cempasúchil): The bright orange marigold flowers are believed to guide spirits to their altars with their vibrant colour and strong scent.

Sugar Skulls (Calaveras): These decorative skulls, often inscribed with the names of the deceased, are placed on altars and given as gifts.

La Catrina: A satirical skeleton figure dressed in fancy clothes, La Catrina was created by artist José Guadalupe Posada and has become an iconic symbol of the holiday.

Pan de Muerto: A special sweet bread, often decorated with bone-shaped phalanges, is traditionally eaten and placed on altars.

Cemetery Visits: Families visit cemeteries to clean and decorate graves, often spending the night in vigil, sharing stories, food, and music.

                    Celebratory Events

Parades and Festivals

Cities like Mexico City host large parades featuring colourful costumes, giant skeleton puppets, and traditional music and dance.

Cultural Performances:

Theatrical performances, dance shows, and concerts celebrate Mexican heritage and the theme of death and rebirth.

Art Exhibitions

Museums and galleries showcase Day of the Dead-themed art, including traditional crafts and contemporary works.
